“And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb” (1 Samuel 1:6).
The Bible says that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and does not add sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22). This does not only concern the recipient of the blessing but every person of goodwill in his space. When God’s blessing in your life brings sorrow to those around you, something is definitely wrong.
Consider the two wives of Elkanah. Hannah was barren, but Peninnah was blessed with children. Because Peninnah had children, she began to taunt and sorely provoke Hannah who was yet to experience the joyful blessing of motherhood. Thus, the blessing of the Lord made Peninnah rich with children, but she used her blessing to give sorrow to Hannah.
Lot was blessed with riches, livestock, herdsmen and servants because of his association with Abraham. But the blessing got to his head and he became an adversary to Abraham. His herdsmen began striving with Abraham’s herdsmen and he did not rein them in. Eventually, Abraham and Lot parted ways, marking the beginning of the end of Lot’s prosperity.
Beloved, it is not right to use whatever God has blessed you with to fight your fellow man. God’s goodness to you should not become an instrument of oppression. Nobody, except the devil, should suffer because God has blessed you,. When you allow your blessing to turn you into an adversary to your neighbour who may not have been so blessed, you are cutting short your prosperity and limiting your ability to enjoy it. May your blessings make you a blessing to others.
