RETURNING TO THE ANCIENT PATHS (I)

“Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up” (Jeremiah 18:15).

God always desires intimate connection with man, having made us in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). He did this so we might seek Him and feel after Him (Acts 17:27). But every now and then, we do wrong things that disconnect us from God.

At one time, God was reviewing this matter with particular regard to biblical Israel and attributed the problem to the people’s departure from the ancient path. Today also, God’s people have stumbled from the ancient paths to walk in the way that God never designed for them, creating a gap that seems to keep widening.

But if we will see God at work again, we must return to the ancient path individually and as a Church. To do this, some important fundamental adjustments must be made quickly to arrest the negative tendencies that push us away from the ancient path.

First, we need to understand that we have no real life or existence outside of God. We seem to always forget this, making it easy for us to forget God as indicated in today’s Bible verse. The scripture says that it is in God we live, and move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). As the Lord Jesus declared, without Him, we can do nothing and also amount to nothing (John 15:5).

Beloved, do not ever imagine your life without God. He must always occupy the centre place in your whole life. That is a fundamental condition to walking the ancient path.
