“The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works” (Psalms 145:9).
The Bible reveals God as infinitely benevolent towards man. Every gift we receive from Him is undeserved. Every blessing is unmerited. All the good that have come to us have been products of the sheer benevolence of the Almighty. We ought always to be thankful.
God owes you nothing. Yet He takes responsibility for everything that concerns you. He freely gives you oxygen to breathe every second and life to live without charge. The abilities you have and the capacity of your body members to function normally are all free gifts from God.
Jesus often pointed us to the benevolence of God. For example, He taught about the kindness of God in that He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). He also spoke of the ultimate sacrifice and supreme act of benevolence that made God to give His only begotten Son to die for our redemption (John 3:16).
The truth is that when we understand the Lord’s benevolence towards us, we will complain less and will be more thankful. We will appreciate every little blessing and be grateful for the least of God’s mercies towards us. And when we remember how imperfect we are, we will feel less entitled and more indebted to God.
Like David, it is time to bless the Lord with your soul and all that is within you, and never forget all His benefits (Psalms 103:2). It is a good thing to always celebrate the loving kindness of God.
